What is Sirius Soul Growth?

Sirius, also known as the Dog Star, is the brightest star in our night sky. In the Southern Hemisphere, you can see Sirius pretty much year round, while in the Northern Hemisphere, its heliacal rising happens sometime between early August and early September, depending on where you are located.

Sirius holds a lot of symbolism across many different cultures. For the ancient Egyptians, it was linked to the goddess Isis and represented rebirth and renewal. Its rising marked the flooding of the Nile, which meant it was also a symbol of fertility and prosperity. The Greeks and Romans connected its brightness to the intense summer heat, and since it belongs to the constellation Canis Major (the Greater Dog), they started calling it the Dog Star. This is also where the term “Dog Days of Summer” comes from—those blazing hot summer days. For ancient sailors, Sirius was a beacon in the night sky, a reliable guide that represented direction and clarity.

In the astrological, spiritual, and metaphysical communities, Sirius is seen as a gateway to higher wisdom and spiritual growth—a symbol of transformation, ascension, and awakening. For me, personally, Sirius rising represents the time-frame that the sun transits my natal first house, it symbolizes the rebirth, spiritual growth, and transformation that is happening in me and in my life. Its prominence and visibility in the night sky during this time made it a physical representation of my quest for direction and clarity which led to a transformation and awakening to my life's purpose. Now, it can be a beacon of light to those who are in the deep, dark journey of seeking their own direction and purpose

The spark of Sirius Soul Growth began during the Great American Eclipse in August 2017, which fell in my first house of Leo. That eclipse set off a chain of events that led into the January 2019 Lunar Eclipse in Leo conjunct my Ascendant. The rest of 2019 was an intense ride—full of major astrological transits that turned my life upside down, making me rethink everything I ever knew about my life and everything I had done up until that point. My biggest questions arose - what is the point of all this…why am I (or we) even here?  It sent me deep into my dark night of the soul which was such a profound experience that it was dubbed “The Great Hibernation.” I stepped out of my current reality and took a deep dive into myself.

That journey took me down so many roads—through hills and valleys, back roads and alleys. I found myself diving into countless rabbit holes searching for answers. I spoke with God every day, practiced meditation and reiki, and used my life-long love for astrology to try and make sense of what was happening. I knew enough to see the energies at play in my chart, but it still felt like I was missing something. The natal, progressed, and transit charts were like the road maps of my life, but they were lacking information. Important information, like where am I even going? What is my life purpose? I wanted and needed more—more truth, more knowledge, more insight. I kept asking and waiting, and slowly, things started to fall into place.

People, places, and new experiences showed up at just the right times. The perfect mentors appeared with each lesson I needed and was ready for, different forms of divination ebbed and flowed into my life. It felt like revisiting an old story I’d half-forgotten but that still resonated so deeply within me. And just when I thought I’d figured it all out—that I had the answers I was searching for—I realized I was only just beginning. There’s a whole lifetime ahead, and I’ve barely scratched the surface half-way through mine.
